800 People Receive Free Medical Services at KEREGE in Bagamoyo, PWANI
The Rotary Club of Oyster Bay with a team of
medical professionals and volunteers worked together to provide free medical services
to Kerege residents in Bagamoyo.
The full day camp took place on Sunday,
November 27th, 2016 at Kerege Primary School.
A range of
conditions including malaria, anaemia, diabetes and hypertension, ENT, skin,
eyes and dental problems was screened for and treated, Other services provided
in the camp included provision of free spectacles whichwere given to people
with poor eyesight as well as HIV counseling and testing.
Ante-natalcounseling
and free obstetric kits were provided to pregnant women, HIV testing as well as
cervical cancer testing was also done at the medical camp, For the first time,
washable sanitary pads including hygiene education provided to young girls.
Speaking during
the event, Alfred Woiso, President of the Rotary Club of Oyster Bay said, “We
happy to be here once again and glad to see that people have come out in
numbers. We have seen about 800 patients who came with
various problems. We have a lot of people with diabetes and high blood
pressure. There seems to be a need to expand our services and tackle a wider
range of diseases in our next camps.”
The medical camp
was attended by over 800 hundred people from Kerege and neighboring villages.
This is the sixth time that the Rotary Club of Oyster Bay has hosted the
medical camp at Kerege with the aim of supporting Kerege residents in getting
medical services that they would otherwise have not been able to afford.
The Medical Camp was sponsored by Diamond
Trust Bank and organized in partnership with the Shree Hindu Mandal Hospital,
Vital Supplies, Whitedent, vClick Concepts Inc, MAK Books and Brains, ABACUS
Pharmaceuticals, Fazel Foundation with Rotarians and Rotaractors.
